The Department of Management Studies (DMS) was established in 1997 under the aegis of the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.) and concurrence from the State Government. Presently the Faculty offers three programmes in management- MBA 2 Year Full Time Programme, Two-year MBA Specialization and Five year MBA Integrated Programme. The MBA 2 Year Full Time Programme is the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved course under a State University in Uttarakhand. The five year MBA Integrated programme was initiated in 2011 with an intake of forty students. The number since then has been increasing every year. We also offer Ph.D. program in Management.
Business administration is a system of scientific knowledge of concerned planning and managing of organizational activities. The field extends to business management theory, accounting science, commerce, business engineering, management informatics, and analysis management, taking a variety of approaches such as economics, sociology, psychology, and mathematics. It is a discipline that makes use of all academic disciplines and is useful for better organizational management. We believe in complete personality development of students through various co-curricular activities apart from the regular academic curriculum. Students here are encouraged to organize and participate in conferences and various student-driven activities organized on campus as well as in other leading B-Schools throughout the year. We have produced professionally capable students who are active in the field of business such as finance, production, distribution, marketing, personnel affairs, and information technology.

The Department of Management Studies (DMS) was established after the approval of University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The two year full time MBA programme was launched in November 1997.DMS is a University Department under the Faculty of Management located in Bhimtal-a satellite town of Nainital, is situated in the Himalayan foot-hills. Bhimtal is gradually emerging as an educational hub with several national and state level research centres.
Apart from education, DMS also lays emphasis on overall personality of students. Seminars, guest lectures, group discussions and presentations are regularly held to enhance the all-round personality of the students. Also, there is a rich tradition of stage shows, fairs, sports, games, fetes, and other cultural activities. All these activities add colour and vibrance to the campus life. Industrial visits and excursions are regularly organized to provide exposure to students and make the curriculum more meaningful. We also have a student council that is run by the student representatives, thus providing students a platform to come together and discuss various issues with the faculty members. The council members are responsible for different portfolios and work for the development of the same.
The library is housed in a fully furnished and adequately equipped big hall. The department has a vast collection of books of all the streams of management. National, International journals, newspapers and business magazines and periodicals provides student good exposure to current developments at global and local level. The books related to the subjects are provided to the students for the whole programme thus making it easier for the students to learn the concepts being taught in the class.
The class rooms are well furnished and designed to assist faculty student interface in a better way. The audio- video aids such as LCD projectors are available in classes for making learning experience more interactive, meaningful and lively.
The department understands the importance of computer education and power of internet. The Computer Center has 75 computers with latest configuration connected with LAN and has continuous internet connectivity (FTTH Broadband with speed upto 200 mbps). The students have easy access to the computer center at all times on working days. Apart from this the whole campus is Wi-Fi thus making it easier for the students to avail the internet facility anywhere in the campus. We also have a dedicated uninterrupted power supply (online UPS) systems hence power cuts are never an issue.
The department has a well-furnished auditorium and conference hall for conducting guest lectures and seminars. The auditorium has a seating capacity of more than 200 and is equipped with latest audio-video aids for facilitating a better interaction between the speaker and audience. The department has two generators with 15 KVA and 30 KVA respectively for power backup.
The department provides separate high quality hostel facility for boys and girls. They have adequate sports facilities for various types’ indoor and outdoor games. Electric generators in hostels provide 24 hours power supply to students residing in hostels.
The Department has pioneered management education in the region and has established itself as the foremost and most sought after Department imparting management education in the region. DMS is committed to providing quality education to young men and women, encouraging them to take of management in careers.

Prof. L. K. Singh completed his B.Text. in Textile Technology from Government Central Textile Institute (now UPTTI), Kanpur. He completed his MBA from Rohil Khand University Bareilly. He also completed MSC (Finance) from ICFAI University and received the charter of CFA. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in the area of Portfolio Management. He has served the corporate world for nearly ten years at different managerial levels in production, marketing, sales coordination and planning in various organisations of repute including Grasim Industries and Indian Rayon and Industries Ltd, the two flagship companies of Aditya Birla Group. During his corporate stint he has conceptualised, planned and implemented a project on “end of the line packaging automation system” apart from his routine assignments.
His academic innings began when he joined Department of Management Studies, Kumaun University, Bhimtal in 1999 as the first regular/permanent faculty of the department. He has been the Head of this department for more than six years in two stints. He was convener of Board of Studies as well as RDC in Management Studies. He has been associated with various academic and research bodies of other Universities. He was one of the Joint Director of Counselling and Placement Directorate of Kumaun University. He has taught various subjects to the students of MBA programme. His major area of interest is Finance. He is regularly teaching subjects like Financial Decision Making, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, International Finance, Financial Derivatives, Financial Markets and Institutions etc to MBA students. He has published more than fifteen research papers in various reputed journals. He has also published a book on Portfolio Management. Nine research scholars have so far completed their Ph.D. under his supervision. His current areas of research include Mergers and Acquisitions, Dividend Policy and Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFC).
