Faculty of Visual Art of Kumaun University is a unique Faculty in Uttarakhand, India. It has established to promote the studies of Drawing and Painting in the broader way and other inter-related subjects. The Faculty has launched its new professional self-finance courses BFA and MFA. The Faculty also offers research programs. The Department of Painting as well as the faculty both is committed to train the sophisticated creative art practices through its programme in the painting stream/subjects. It has established to promote the studies of Drawing and Painting in the broader way and other inter-related subjects. The Faculty has launched its new professional self-finance courses BFA and MFA. The Faculty also offers research programs. The Department of Painting as well as the faculty both is committed to train the sophisticated creative art practices through its programme in the painting stream/subjects. Regular courses of B.A. and M.A. in Painting are run in the two campuses at Almora and Nainital including more than five affiliated colleges while BFA and MFA in Painting course run in the Almora Campus only. Recently Gyanarthi Media Kashipur has launched BFA. In our department/ faculty students learn to create an image using any of the wide variety of tools and techniques in dry media, such as, graphite pencils, charcoals, pen and ink, markers, inkers, brushes, wax colour pencils, crayons and pastels in drawing. The use of applying pigment in a carrier or medium and a binding agent/glue on a two dimensional surfaces such a paper, canvas and a wall is learnt in painting. Computer Graphics, Photography and Clay modeling are also taught in this course. Finally they learn practical and adequate theory of the subjects with further scope of research and freelancing. Faculty/ Department have organized several activities - lectures, workshops, seminars and exhibitions time to time. Number of literature has been published in the form of monograph, books and catalogue on art including tribal, folk and culture. Faculty members availed minor and major research projects from the UGC and fellowship from Korea Foundation. In 2016, the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Programme was availed by us for the faculty/university inviting to Professor Valentina DuBasky from USA. Practices training and teaching facilitated by our best and experienced colleagues, coordinator of Fine Art, teachers including guest faculties. Maximum of our students from the faculty has been placed in the Government/Semi Government jobs especially for teaching as well as freelancing in their respective field.
At present only Painting stream is functional under self finance. In this department students learn to create an image using any of the wide variety of tools and techniques in dry media, such as, graphite pencils, charcoals, pen and ink, markers, inkers, brushes, wax colour pencils, crayons and pastels in drawing.
